"save file as" using vnc
Help...I'm real new to this linux thing...but i have gotten so far as to install vnc and got it to run programs on one linux (suse 8.0) machine from another linux (suse 8.0) machine. I soon want to use it to allow 2 or 3 old slow pc's (PII's) to run a program on one newer faster machine that will act as a server (a PIII 500 MHz or so).

Question 1 is: how do I run a program on the server from the viewer and save the file I create on the server to the viewer machine in the /home/user_name directory of the viewer machine?

Question 2 is: I have edited the /etc/hosts file of both of the above machines to include the host name and the associated ip number ) and 192.168.105. Every time I boot up these machines do get the correct IP number. Is this all I have to do to assign a static IP address to a machime on a private network?

IF all are running Linux, you can just use the X server for it.

thanks for the reply, but at some point in the near future, I will be adding windows machines to this network. Besides vnc seems to save the state of the program easily, which is helpful for me.
