Satellite server
All...I am a windows admin that was given our RHEL servers when our admin walked out 3 days ago. I haven't seen any unix/linux since college (too many moons ago).
I have been tasked to apply some critical updates. I was told our updates are done through a satellite server. I did some reading and know some basics. I have to log on to the satellite server and run satellite-sync. But I couldn't find out what to do from the client side after that sync completes. Is that just a sync as well? Thanks and looks like I'll be taking some RHEL classes immediately! |
If you're using RedHat then you're paying RedHat for support, so why not check with them on best practise or what to look for? :)

My guess is your local machines are already configured to use the satellite server, so once the satellite server is synced, you should be able to just run "yum update" on the local machines to download and apply all updates.
Having never used a satellite server for updates, I have about 50% confidence in that advice. :) |
Ahhhh....So excited...Found our account number for RedHat support!!! Time to make a call...Thanks for the imput everyone!!
