SATA, IDE and mandrake 10

a friend of mine has a SATA master drive and is thinking of installing an IDE slave drive so that he can install Mandrake 10 on it.

(The SATA drive has XP on it).

The question is: will this work, and is it likely that LILO or Grub will detect the SATA drive and offer dual boot? And is XP likely to throw a tantrum?

Any advice much appreciated.

I can see no reason why it shouldn't work. Mandrake should also detect the SATA disk. The only problem is how the boot will be configured (if LILO or GRUB is planned for dual-boot, it should be installed on the Linux disk and BIOS should be set up to boot from IDE disk first).
