Samsung Evo in Linux

Is it okay to attach Samsung SSD 850 Evo to Rasberry Raspbian via USB?

I found (old) posts which say it’s not safe to do.

It depends on the model of your Pi. A model 3 should be fine. I don't know what the SSD needs in terms of current but to be safe with other models you probably should run it from a powered hub.

I have Raspberry 3.

Few years ago i emailed to Samsung about is it possible to use this SSD with any kind of USB-hubs and they said no.

Same time i emailed to some big HDD maker and asked same question about their 5 TB HDD and they said also no.

So all this time i have not used USB-hubs with these.

I’m not sure who to believe. I'm not expert on this topic.

Not sure why was assuming the drive was an external model. It needs an external power supply any way so the hub does not matter. The SATA USB adapter does require some power from the PI but it should be sufficient.

Yes it's internal SSD. I just found old external USB 3 case. How that changes things?

Make sure the enclosures power supply has sufficient current for the drive. If so should work with the pi

The picture of the drive in the link shows the drive needs 1.95amps. The Pi can not source that much current which means that you need an enclosure with a separate power supply.

You need something like this:
