samba works but add access from internet
 

Samba works fine on my LAN. Im trying to connect now from work. Im at the point where Im trying to get it to work first then I will build the security in.

• Im trying to log in with the same ID and pass that works from the LAN.
• I have added my work IP, and external nick eth1 into smb.conf and restarted
• I have disabled my firewall to allow all
• I have set my hosts.allow to ALL:<work IP>

I get prompted for a logon and pass but it doesnt let me in and I dont see anything in my logs.

Any suggestiong you may have would be greatly appreciated.

maybe i just don't know enough about security to know how to make it safe, but i would *never* run samba over the internet. :eek: if you want to get your files, you should set up a VPN, a private ftp server, sshd, etc. if you feel confident enough in your abilities, go for it, but imho it's not a very good idea. :twocents:
