Samba, trouble adding xp machines to my domain.
Hi.
I'm working on a project installing an openSUSE server as PDC in a Windows Network and I'm wondering, what do I need to do in order to get it working? Prerequisites are: PDC, File and Print server with limited printing (Max 50 pages per user), Quotas (1GB), and security is of an essence. Later on, a webserver. I'm new to Linux (only 1 month) and therefore I need to work with GUI. I come from a background as windows server 2003 administrator. I have made several installs of openSUSE 10, 11 and 12. Now I'm using the latest version,12.2. I have installed DHCP, DNS, Samba, SWAT, LDAP, Keberos and much more. I've done some configurations but I'm having trouble adding xp-machines to the domain (is it even a domain?). I can't get LDAP working together with DHCP or DNS, but it works with Samba (do I need LDAP?). These are the services installed on my PDC1: pdc1:~ # service --status-all acpid.service loaded active running ACPI Event Daemon autofs.service loaded active running Automounts filesystems on demand avahi-daemon.service loaded active running Avahi mDNS/DNS-SD Stack bluez-coldplug.service loaded active exited LSB: handles udev coldplug of bluetooth dongles console-kit-daemon.service loaded active running Console Manager console-kit-log-system-start.service loaded active exited Console System Startup Logging cpufreq.service loaded active exited LSB: CPUFreq modules loader cron.service loaded active running Command Scheduler cups.service loaded active running CUPS Printing Service cycle.service loaded active exited LSB: Set default boot entry if called dbus.service loaded active running D-Bus System Message Bus dhcpd.service loaded active running LSB: ISC DHCP 4.x Server fbset.service loaded active exited LSB: Framebuffer setup getty@tty1.service loaded active running Getty on tty1 haveged.service loaded active running Haveged Entropy Gathering Daemon ldap.service loaded active running LSB: OpenLDAP Server (slapd) localnet.service loaded active exited LSB: setup hostname and yp named.service loaded active running LSB: Domain Name System (DNS) server, named network-remotefs.service loaded active exited LSB: Configure the remote-fs depending network interfaces network.service loaded active exited LSB: Configure the localfs depending network interfaces NetworkManager.service loaded failed failed Network Manager nmb.service loaded active running LSB: Samba NetBIOS naming service over IP ntp.service loaded active running LSB: Network time protocol daemon (ntpd) postfix.service loaded active running Postfix Mail Transport Agent rc-local.service loaded active exited /etc/init.d/boot.local Compatibility remount-rootfs.service loaded active exited Remount Root FS smb.service loaded active running LSB: Samba SMB/CIFS file and print server sssd.service loaded active running System Security Services Daemon syslog.service loaded active running System Logging Service systemd-journald.service loaded active running Journal Service systemd-logind.service loaded active running Login Service systemd-modules-load.service loaded active exited Load Kernel Modules systemd-readahead-collect.service loaded active exited Collect Read-Ahead Data systemd-readahead-replay.service loaded active exited Replay Read-Ahead Data systemd-remount-api-vfs.service loaded active exited Remount API VFS systemd-sysctl.service loaded active exited Apply Kernel Variables systemd-tmpfiles-setup.service loaded active exited Recreate Volatile Files and Directories systemd-user-sessions.service loaded active exited Permit User Sessions systemd-vconsole-setup.service loaded active exited Setup Virtual Console udev-root-symlink.service loaded active exited create /dev/root symlink with dynamic rule udev-trigger.service loaded active exited udev Coldplug all Devices udev.service loaded active running udev Kernel Device Manager upower.service loaded active running Daemon for power management winbind.service loaded active running LSB: NSS daemon for resolving names from Microsoft Windows servers xdm.service loaded active running LSB: X Display Manager xinetd.service loaded active running LSB: Starts the xinet daemon.
