Samba thingie.
 

Hi. Im trying to set up samba. i have done this before, but now the computer wont cooperate=P

Im using Fedora C2, and configureing it in X.

The problem is:

earlier, it seemed like "Authentication mode" need to be set to "user" if i want to connect with the users i declared in the user file. And that did not use to be any problem. However, now it wont be set to user. When i set it to user, it just goes back to Shared resource(or whatever it is in english. the one above "user"), and the result is that i cant log in. Anyone have any clue whats wrong?

Make sure it points to a real user authentication method (such as tdbsam, etc.)

hmm. i cant find anything named authentication method at that menu

What are you using to configure it? Are you using Webmin, SWAT or from the command line?

Im configuring it using the graphical thing in X...

I am not sure what you mean by the "graphical thing" in X. There are a few methods that I am familar with. One is to use Webmin from the browser which will give you access to SWAT, two: you can use the Webmin interface, three: you can use SWAT directly from the browser interface, or four: you can do it from the command line. There are a few things that we need to know in order to assist you. One is obviously how you are configuring it. Then there is the contents of your smb.conf file. That info may help.

Sorry. Well, i find it at the "start menu". From there i go to something like system settings, ans there is a new tab called Server wettings. (/or something like that. i run fedora in norwegian so i dont know exactly what its like in english.) from that tab i can press "Samba". A window popps up. The title bar of the windos says something like "Samba Server Configuration". Below the tilte bar, is the file bar, and i can choose between "File" "User settings" and "Help". Below there, there are some icons. They say: "Add","Preferences" "Delete" and "Help".
Add and delete, is to add and remove folders from the samba service. Below that bar, there is a list of all the folders that can be accessed from samba service. The place where i can find Authentication mode is under "User settins"-> "Settings" -> "Security". Im not certain my translations are correct, but it says something like it in english. i hope

Okay, I'm with you now. If I might, there is a really good configuration tool that is available. It is located at http://www.webmin.com . It offers a GUI to do configuration for many things available on your system (not just SAMBA). It might be a good way for you to accomplish this configuration. If you aren't real savvy with the command line yet, it is a good way to start. Once you have done the configuration with Webmin, you can take a look at the config files and see what it does to them. It will offer you the ability to set your permissions, and authentication from within webmin, restart the samba server and so on. Take a look at it and give it a try.
