samba/proxy troubles
Alright: new user of RedHat 8.0; worked mostly flawlessly for the first day, up through installing Samba and the xsmbrowser client.
I had a proxy server installed on a windows box on my home network and I plugged the address into mozilla/gaim and it worked just fine out of the box. Then, while browsing my samba network, everything suddenly stops working: my eth0 deactivates and won't reactivate, xsmbroswer says it's unable to find domain master, I get Network Error 111: connection refused. Apparently, someone had run the network connection wizard on the XP box that I connected to, and this may have messed up some DCHP serving ability. Now not only can't I get samba to browse the network, but I can't browse the internet through the proxy, either. I'm very new to Linux and at this point I'm pretty lost. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |
recheck your domain name or workgroup name as well as your ip address. The wizard hoses all your networking settings in windoze.

I can get eth0 to activate by using a fixed IP instead of DCHP and the machines will ping one another, but I'm not sure what I should change in either one's configuration.
So... What should I be looking for? All the IPs and workgroups seem to be the same as they were. |
Verify that the Internet Connection Firewall is disabled on the XP machines?
