Samba Password Issues

I have set up Samba on slackware 12.1 which is working fine, however added a user to the share in exactly the same as before then tried creating a password for that user and it comes back with

Failed to find entry for user root.
Failed to modify password entry for root

Prior to this I have set up a new user with matching user name and password with adduser command and this worked fine and have tested this. I am not sure what to look at next because this is the same process that I went through before I had to reset up slackware due to a harddrive failure?????

Can you please post the exact command you ran, not just
some part of an error message?

You're probably looking for the 'smbpasswd' command. Also it isn't a good idea to let someone login to your system with samba as root. I suggest you learn how file permissions work on Linux so that you can ensure that it is going to be a far more secure setup. Here is a bit of information on how file permissions work .

Good luck!

Stupidity on my part

I realised after I went back over my notes that the right command and therefore adding the password was not an issue was that it should have been;

smbpasswd -a "username"

and not;

Thanks for your help.
