SAMBA on Linux Mint 18.1 Cinnamon Serena

hi all:

love LM 18.1 and learning more each day. However Win networking does not work accessing shares on Windows from LM, OK from Windows to Linux server but reverse no go. I continually get "Password required for <share-name-on-windows PC>.

I am very much a newbie to Linux, almost dangerous. I do have a work-a-round using manual cmd as follows:

sudo mount -t cifs //10.0.0.15/my_username/my_remote_windows_share -o username=me, sec=ntlm

this launches windows file share on my LM desktop. a real pain I must say.

Question: why doesn't NEMO work using graphical interface? How can a release be distributed w/o NEMO working. Last good NEMO working was LM 17.3 Rosa

thx all...

Hi alan89, Welcome to LQ :-)

I'm not very familiar with Mint or its file manager, however, in my experience, Windows shares need to be defined in fstab for automatic mounting in the file manager. Have you tried this ? If you don't understand what that means, please ask and we'll try to help you out.

Cheers,
