samba on box not showing

hey,

ive got my home network on a router with the workgroup name 'THORNBUSH', but ive installed red hat 9, and set samba running, set THORNBUSH as the workgroup, added a user and set a dir to share.... why might it not be showing in the workgroup computers? does anything else need to be set?

thanks

I'm not familiar with RH, does it restart the
daemons automagically when you change
configuration files?

Are smbd and nmbd running?

Cheers,
Tink

Workgroup computers? I assume they are running windows? What version? It might take awhile before network neighborhood updates. Also make sure that if you are running a firewall on the RH PC its not blocking smb ports i.e. 137, 138,139, 243 (or is it 245?).

On a windows PC open up a command prompt window and type in the command:
net view

You should see all the computers in the network configured for sharing. To see the shares on the RH box
net view \\<RH_netbios_name>

Replace RH_netbios_name with the actual host name or netbios name from the smb.conf file.
