well i downlodaded the file samba-latest.tar.gz
i have ./configure file under source

maybe your file is corrupted..

$pwd shows what directory u r in
if u are under ../samba-version/source

you r in the correct directory

like i said, corrupted file =(

hey
don't u have installation cd?
i'm pretty sure that cd will have samba rpm
=( u can look at each cd which one has it
and just do rpm -Uvh /path/to/the/file(eg, /mnt/cdrom/blahblah/samba-verion.rpm

i had never got corrupted files

it could be network or cd burner

other ppl had similar problems, try search forum/google
you will find most questions already answered

make sure you are in /source
I had the same trouble as you with ./configure until I got into /source. From /source it should work... hopfully.
