I get this error when trying to start Samba in Lubuntu. Help Please: Invalid desktop entry file: '/usr/share/applications/system-config-samba.desktop That is a far as I have gotten so far.
What happens if you remove that file and put it in a folder under /root where it is not seen by the system, and then either restart samba or restart your computer? Samba could possibly create a new replacement file that it considers valid.
