hello all,
I'd installed the Ubuntu 7, and now I want to share files with windows clients, I'd heard and search that I can do it with Samba, I'd installed samba through apt-get install samba
and now what?
how can I lunch and use it?
when I type smdpsswd, I type the password twice , then I got with this error:
Failed to find entry for user root.
Failed to modify password entry for user root.
Any help?
Thanks in advance

You need to configure samba server. There are two parts, samba server and samba client. If you want to access a windoze share form a linux system, all you need it samba client installed. If you run a KDE desktop, then you can access windoze shares from Konqueror. Type smb://workgroup to display machines belonging to workgroup. Match the name of your workgroup.

To get linux sharing files with windoze, you need to configure the samba server and then start it. I suggest you do some reading, here, it has examples that work. -->

Here is a link to a detailed reference guide. -->

There are others if you google.

Samba configuration is not trivial. There are thousands of options. Start simple. Get basic sharing working, and then add to it as you learn.
