Russian filenames in KDE

Alright I can't for the life of me figure this one out..
I am almost always an english user of KDE on Mandrake 2005LE, but I would like to be able to do things in Russian on my computer. The problem with this is that KDE and Konsole and most things like that will only show russian filenames and such (anything other than websites and emails) as a bunch of question marks. I type a filename in russian and press enter and it turns it into ??????????????????
I have the KDE russian language support installed, so I dunno. What do I need to do to fix this???

Are you using a unicode font?

Are the fonts chosen capable of showing Russian text?

Well I'm using Sans size 10 for my fonts, and my other icons translate to russian (devices and such) and show up just fine, it's just when I try to type a filename in Russian that it changes it.. I don't know how to find out about the unicode thing though.

Does your filesystem support unicode filenames?
what locale are you using at the low level?

you can enable russian in KDE but if the filesystem can't handle it you probably get the situation your in.

I found a goof introduction to this here.
