Hi!
I recently bought a eesus mini-pc which came pre-installed with what I believe is a Xandros OS. My previous linux experience is limited to a couple of weeks running Ubuntu. I have managed to start synaptic from the "shell" but it seems that something goes wrong during the download/install phase...
Unfortunately I don't personally know all that many linuxgurus but hopefully I can get some tips on what might be the problem...
it seems that something goes wrong during the download/install phase...
Very vague, isn't it ?
Please at least tell us:
- which package you did try to download and install
- which command did you issue exactly in order to do so
- what was the exact output of it, including all warnings or error
Well, I realize that my description of the problem at hand might have been just a bit too vague... I will try to extrapolate:
- libwine
Windows API Implementation (Library)
This is as far as I can understand the actual package... an additional problem which becomes evident here though is that I have a poor grip of what a package actually is...
- the errors which occur during installation seem to relate to the source of the package, the "download adress" seems not to be correct...
- I tried to install wine simply by adding it via synaptic..- so what I did was basically that I started the "shell" and then started synaptic... then I, as far as I can remeber, I did a search for "wine"...
These are really newbie questions, right? Please bear with me. (:
Unfortunately I do not know Xandros so I' afraid I can't help you much but let's begin by a simple question: did you check that your eesus mini-pc is connected to the Internet?
It is obviously the case if you are posting from it. Otherwise try to surf with it and give us the result.
I have a working internet connection. The problem seems to be that I am using an invalid download source for the Wine-package... it seems to be outdated. So perhaps it could be solved by using another download source?

A package is a bundle of ready-to-run code and administrative instructions on where to place components of the package, what the package depends on, etc.:
Quote:
A software package refers to computer software packaged in an archive format to be installed by a package management system or a self-sufficient installer.

Description: Run Windows applications like MS Office in Linux
CrossOver Linux for Xandros makes it possible to use Windows applications
such as Microsoft Office, Quicken, and Lotus Notes on Linux.
It's possible that that may look like Greek, but it provides some details on a Windows emulator for Linux, specifically for Xandros.
What are you trying to do with wine?
Will crossover suffice?
Do you have crossover?
I don't use these emulators. When I need to use something specific to Windows, I use a Virtual Machine into which I have installed Windows ... cheers, makyo
