I should have clicked straight away. Ubuntu doesn't play non-free stuff out of the box.

Here's another helpful resource: Perfectbuntu

Can that run from the CD/DVD drive or does it have to be installed on the computer,? I didn't really want to install another OS on my computer until I know if I like it or not, that was the whole idea of running with the live CD/DVD of Ubuntu 10.04 but as you can see I am not having much success. I wanted to trial the software before dumping Windows.
I am still going to persist with it but it is very frustrating trying to get things to work whereas with Windowns, as you know, works straight out of the box. I guess I shouldn't compare the two programs but as mentioned before I would love to trial Ubuntu but it seems rather difficult to set up and use the way I need to use it. Maybe it would run much better if installed on the computer but I am not game to try doing that until I can see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Yes, for that script to work Ubuntu does need to be installed to the hard drive. If you want a working out of the box solution, Linux Mint is my choice for you to try. Take a look at the site, have a quick read, download and run.... Then sit back and smile :)

Most youtubes are Adobe Flash. You would need the Adobe Flash plugin for Linux.

I think I tried to install that but it froze so I gave up but will try it again when I give it another go later today.

Or you could install the flashplugin-installer available via the Synaptic Package Manager. System--> Administration.

Thanks I will make a note of that too. Will play around some more with it later today. Thanks.

I installed Linux Mint in Virtualbox and it took a long time but it seems okay. I have sound but it doesn't show my DVD drive in "places" and therefor I cannot play a DVD/CD cos all I see in "places" is a floppy drive but the DVD/CD burner is not showing up so I can't mount it and play anything from it. Have I done something wrong or do I need to download something else to get the drive up and running to play discs.

When I was trying to run with Ubuntu, I had the option to mount the other drives on my computer now this is not an option here with Limux Mint. How come?

I cannot access any of my hardware it seems. Help please.

Not sure, will check and see if I can find what you mentioned. Is the details page in Linux Mint or Virtualbox?

I only see the host DVD/CD drive in there and I have now got the DVD to play by Device/CD/DVD devices/and mounting the drive from there. but the disc is not playing through Rythmbox in Linux Mint.
Is there a way I can mount the drive from Rythmbox? or software that will do that.
