running the installer????
 

Ok I know I asked the question in another forum but I believe it was to complex and a little to ikk and to ???? LOL ohh well not to just address the problem.

any way none the less I downloaded a theme and in the readme file It tells me I need to first run the installer ok what is that?

well because I did not know what that was I tired th run sh install.sh in the dir where that file is, but it tells me that I need to do that in the installer folder. (where is that?)

I sometimes have the same problem, but usually there is also a configuration and make file. So if install.sh doesn't work, you can try to compile manually.

well this does not have config or make and from what I hav read I need to run the installer so what is (the installer)?

Exactly which theme are you installing and where can we download it?

Well, I don't know if it will work smooth afterwards, but I've found a way to get past the problem.

-unpack as they say in your /home/user directory
- browse to /Karamba/Borealis

Now in, as root, open the file install.sh with gedit (or any other editor).

In line 25, change the part "$HOME/Karamba/Borealis"
into
"/home/yourusername/Karamba/Borealis"

Now save it and run install.sh again. This works for me, but I haven't installed it to the end for I don't need it, so I don't know if it will install in the right path now. I guess you'll see.

well it worked to a degree but at the end it did not work

I have been looking around the net for a installer but to no avail perhaps someone here would know of on (it seems that I have to have some kind of installer this is a program that installs the files i guess. any way if any one knows of one plz tell me

also when installing it it ask me this

Please enter the mountpoint for the first drive (default is /)

ok I have windows on my pc 2 hd first has xp then the second drive has debian also is this the same thing like

when loged in as root before / I have cwolf this is somtihg that debian told me to put in it was debian but I wanted somthing shorter should I here at this question put cwolf/ or hdb1/ ect

A recap

To install this theme do the following three steps:

1) Download the package

2) Decompress the package inside your $HOME directory (IMPORTANT! It must be in your $HOME directory if you do not want to do additional editing of the config files):
tar -jxvf Borealis_superkaramba-VERSION.tar.bz2

3) Run the installer and follow the instructions:
cd Karamba/Borealis
sh install.sh

That should be it!

ok form what #3 (in green) says I have to run a installer OK has any one seen an installer or know what it is talikng about
remember after #3 it says cd Karamba/Borealis which means I have just extracted it so I as of yet have not left the main folder where I down loaded the tar.bz2 file to it to. any ideas?

The installer normally is the 'install.sh' file. You can run it with the command 'sh install.sh' or './install.sh'. So what you're doing is right. It's simply not clear in which directory you have to put it.

well, it's supposed to be in home, but should it be in /home/usrname/ ?

I'm guessing since it says $HOME.. But I'm far from an expert, actually I barely scrape the surface of newbie.. *sob*

Well, according to the instructions it shouldn't be to much of a problem.. *tries it* well, $HOME is obviously /home/usrname *is ashamed of self* so.. the install dir should be /home/usrname/Karamba/Borealis unless... You should run the installer from $HOME, which would be sh /Karamba/Borealis/install.sh *tries that aswell*

Silly question, I know, but did you try google yet?

What about the SuperKaramba installation directory? Could that be what is meant?
