running scanModem
Hello All:

Getting there slowly but surely.
I've a scanModem utility (M.Stodolsky) and woe is me: don't know how to run it.
I can run:
tar zxvf scanModem.gz

which opens Ark (using kde), and I've extracted the file to /home.

Now what?

how do I run the file? Is it something like:

or is it something else? I ask because I'm bouncing between two hdds, and really, I'd like to get rh up and running.

After decompression, do not forget to make it executable with
chmod +x scanmodem
trigger it with source scanmodem

Thanks much Jatt_thugz, but my question is more basic.
I ran:
chmod +x scanModem

as root, but then what do I do? I don't know how to launch the script. What do I type on the command line or--running kde, where do I go and what do I do?

Again, thanks

Well, first of all, tar command wont work with this file. You do this is console:
gunzip scanModem
which will extract the file in the same directory. Then you do
chmod +x scanModem
which will make it executable. And after that you do this:
If you have any problems, just post here.

sorry the first command should be:
gunzip scanModem.gz

Great. I'll let you know how it goes.

OK! Done. I copied the output to the floppy, and of course now I can't read it because I'm on my Win box. Drag-ola!!

So I have to go back and swap hdd's again so I can have the skinny on what's what w/ LTmodem.

Hopefully no curveballs coming.

I guess this is about half the battle. Now I have to download the driver, compile, go into a few files to fidget and reconfig, and hopefully, voila!!
I'm an optimist right now.

Thanks for the help!

Yeah man, no problem. If you got a question, just post.

Well, I've just downloaded what I think is the appropriate file, and, lo and behold, I copied scanModem.txt and scanModem.txt2 to floppies again and I can see them on my Win box.

I'll be posting here quite a bit since I've got more than just a few questions.

Hopefully I'll be posting shortly on Linux rather than Windows.
