Running rsyslog

If I've installed rsyslog and enabled it to start by default 'chkconfig rsyslog on', do I need to disable syslog by doing 'chkconfig syslog off'?

Also, I noticed that I don't have a /var/log/auth.log or /var/log/auth file as many iptables and security tutorials seem to assume that systems have. Searching about this issue I heard that I need to add 'auth.* /var/log/auth' to /etc/syslog.conf. I tried it and no output goes there. My syslog.conf only has an authpriv.* but not auth.*, and it goes to /var/log/secure. Is this the new name for /var/log/auth, or am I missing out on some logging information?

you shouldn't have sysklogd installed still really, does the service still exist? WHen installed with proper package management, they usually conflict, so you have to remove the old syslog packages first. but yes, disable it if you need to.
