If I've installed rsyslog and enabled it to start by default 'chkconfig rsyslog on', do I need to disable syslog by doing 'chkconfig syslog off'?
Also, I noticed that I don't have a /var/log/auth.log or /var/log/auth file as many iptables and security tutorials seem to assume that systems have. Searching about this issue I heard that I need to add 'auth.* /var/log/auth' to /etc/syslog.conf. I tried it and no output goes there. My syslog.conf only has an authpriv.* but not auth.*, and it goes to /var/log/secure. Is this the new name for /var/log/auth, or am I missing out on some logging information?
