Question Running Linux with Windows

Is it possible to run Linux under Windows. I believe the machine has to be loaded with one or another operating system. Am I correct?

If you want to do that, you can use an emulator like Virtual PC or VMWare. You can have multiple operating systems on a PC. If you want to have both Windows and Linux installed (not running at the same time), you can set up what's called a dual-boot: To do that you need to make room for extra hard disk partitions. If you explain how your hard drives are set up, someone should be able to help you with that.

There is Cygwin. To get the full use of Linux, use VMware. Virtual PC supposedly to be for any OS, but it is not reliable for running a virtual machine of Linux. VMware will give you the least amount of problems. VMware Server costs nothing, but read how to setup it up.

I would recommend setting up a dual boot, but if you absolutely have to run it under Windows, I would use QEmu. It's the only open source VM for Windows, and it also runs Linux faster than any other VM out there.
