running fsck
Is there any way that I can run fsck on my complete system? I realize that I need to umount the devices that I want to check, but seem to be having problems with this. Everything seems to be in use, and I am the only user. How can I boot to maintenance mode (single user) if this is what I need to do. Realize that this is probably very basic, but I am having problems finding answers to this in the documentation I have. Also, any recs on docs or books that answer many of these "beginner" questions? TIA

Yeah you got it, the best way to fsck your whole system is to boot into single user mode.
