Angry Rubbish Resolution - only viewable on 1024x768

Hi.

I'm 1 day into converting from windows to linux and have hit my first problem. My monitor will only show 1024x768 resolution which is not great. I know my monitor and video card are capable of 1280x1024 as this is what I use on Win XP but when I try in Linux I just get a scrambled signal. I've tried messing around with different frequency settings but nothing works.

I'm using:

Voodoo 5
Gateway EV900

Xandros - release 2.4.24x1
i686
KDE 3.1.4

Xdriver - tdfx

Hope that's enough info.

Thanks

make a backup of /etc/x11/xorg.conf
then either edit the config file manually, adding resolutions and frequency's from your monitors instruction manual... OR use xorgcfg or xorgconfig to configure the config file, at one stage you will be asked to pick your monitor or moonitor frequency rage from a list.

once in X, change resolution with Ctrl-Alt and the "+" key

You'll have to change your screen, go to your display properties and there can you choose for example a 1280x1024 LCD screen
After you chose the right one you'll have to restart your X
