RPMs. Do they work with Mandrake?

Hi People,
I've been treading a few RPM tutorials, and only one made reference to Mandrake. All the other say that RPMs work only with Red Hat , Caldera and SuSE.
What's the truth on this subject. Can RPMs be used to install software in Mandrake or not?

Mandrake used to be advertised 99.999% compatible with RedHat. It was originally a branch off RedHat. So, yes, it is built on RPM packages, and you can use them to install new software.

Now, as to whether you can use just any RPMs with Mandrake, the answer is no. You need packages that are built for the version of Mandrake you are running. Same is true with RedHat, SuSE, and the others.

Usually, they say so where you download them from. The name also gives you an indicator. *.mdk.rpm means that the rpm is intended for Mandrake use
