RPMs

I recently discovered, to my annoyance, that the version of xmms being distributed with Red Hat 9.0 does not support mp3s. Being the motivated type, I went to Source Forge and found one that said it did. I installed it using rpm -Uvh [filename] but now can't find it.

So, my questions are: 1) how do you install rpm's? (I had Linux on my computer a couple years ago, and remember doing more than that),
2) once installed, how do you run a program? and
3) what's the best music (mp3) player out there?

Thanks much.

The best and most common is most likely xmms.

You don't need to find a new program most likely, Redhat just doesn't install by default mpg123 which is needed to play mp3's in Linux.

If you go to www.xmms.org they usually have a link to download and instructions to install to get xmms working in the latest releases of Redhat.

Might want to search this site for instructions installing RPM's, they're everywhere and asked all the time.

Also if you scroll down or look here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...threadid=76886 you'll see someone pretty much asked the same question you just asked, which might help out.

type it's name in a terminal or the run menu item if it doesn't show up in the menu.
