rpm install proble--cpio: Archive file not in header

Greetings all,

I am *kind* of a newbie (I've used Mandrake and RH 8.0 distros before). I just installed SuSE 9.1 Personal and it seems it doesn't come with a gcc or g++ compiler (or give you the option to install it from YaST).

I have the gcc compiler working and have downloaded all the rpms that I need for g++ (I think) and have installed about half of them. When trying to install the libg++-libc5-2.7.2.8-1.i386.rpm I get the following error:

****
root> rpm -ivf libg++-libc5-2.7.2.8-1.i386.rpm
Preparing packages for installation...
libg++-libc5-2.7.2.8-1
error: unpacking of archive failed on file doc/libg++-libc5-2.7.2.8-1: cpio: Archive file not in header
****

I tried downloading this file from several different sites and encountered the same problem, so I think it's something I'm doing wrong (or the same bad rpm has been put onto lots of servers).

Thanks for your help.
:confused:
