Unhappy rpm file installation problem in Suse

Hi, guys

I want to install Petite Scheme on my Suse Linux 8.1, I have download the .rpm file from the web site, but when I run the command
$rpm -ivh PetiteChezScheme-6.0a-1.i386.rpm

such error occur,
$failed to open /var/lib/rpm/packages.rpm: Permission denied

I when to check this so called packages.rpm, I could not figure what is problem here, so I need you guys to help me to point what is wrong here,and what should I do?

I don't know a lot about rpm installation, but from what I know, this error occurs usually when you try to execute rpm when not as root (/bin/rpm is owned by root, at least on my SuSE 8.2 system).

So, were you root when you did this command? If not, maybe doing it will help!
