rpm file

i downloaded a .bin file. i unpacked it by means of the terminal. i'm guessing it installed by the text in the terminal. i try to run the rpm file that was "unpacked" and errors appear saying i installed the file already. what is the problem?

Did you follow the provided instructions for installing whatever it was? Maybe the .bin installer already installed the RPM for you?

Try:

rpm -qa | grep whatever

to see if it was installed. If so, there's nothing more to do

let me elaborate a little more...when i ran the bin file in the terminal, it began to unpack and install. the only thing that came out of it that i can see is the rpm file. the only way to open or run the rpm file is to use the installer, but its already installed. rpm file is a java compiler. i've had lots of problems with this whole thing.

How are you going about "running" the RPM file?

If you have an RPM, you should be installing it by typing something like:

rpm -i whatever.rpm
