Question RPM Errors

I am new to linux. I am trying to install a HCF modem. I know! that these are junk, but it is all that I can afford right now. Currently I have downloaded a binary driver from linuxmodems.org. I am logged in as root with the binary file placed in my home directory. I type in the folowing command:

" rpm -i hcfpcimodem-0.99linxtbeta03042700k2.4.18_3-1rh.i586.rpm " and press enter.

I get the folowing error message:

data_Length() RPM_STRING_TYPE count must be 1

Any Ideas?

Thanks for the assistance

Frank
