RPM Driver Help

Ok I've just installed an rpm package driver from linmodems. An installation prompt came up on the screen and it installed. After that nothing happened.

I rebooted and nothing happened. Hard drak still does not detect my modem.

Can someone please help me?

Here's a recent lspci listing it almost looks like the system reconizes the modem in this listing.

[root@localhost soulful93]# lspci

Install wvdial if you dont have it and issue this command
wvdial /etc/wvdial.conf
this should tell u if the modem was installed properly and if it is then just edit /etc/wvdial.conf and add your internet service provider information..
tell us how it goes..

I get an invalid directory output when I issue that command. I also issued a man wvdial command and it returned with an output of there is no man file for wvdial.

I don't know what to do. Wouldn't Hard Drak detect the modem if the driver was installed?

Anyhow, no such luck.

I'm using Mandrake 9.2 with the 2.4.22 ver kernel if that makes any type of difference.

You need to be root to issue those commands:

su

enter root password and then do

wvdial /etc/wvdial.conf
tell us what happens

Super User

wvdial/ect/wvdial.conf

That directory does not exist

I know it's correctly installed because I've used the program before. It say's that the device or resource is busy. All i've been doing to execute it is typing wvdial in the terminal.

It also say's that there is no config file, I'm not sure if the above command actually compiles that file.

if u read my post carefully there's a space in the command. That command creates file if you have modem installed properly. Type my command exactly as I say up there:
Code:
wvdial /etc/wvdial.conf
is not the same as
wvdial/ect/wvdial.conf

Ok gotcha!

Here's the output

[root@localhost soulful93]# wvdial /ect/wvdial.conf
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.53
--> Warning: section [Dialer /ect/wvdial.conf] does not exist in wvdial.conf.
--> Cannot open /dev/modem: No such file or directory
--> Cannot open /dev/modem: No such file or directory
--> Cannot open /dev/modem: No such file or directory

After I ran this command I read something on the net about another driver for the AC'97 in Toshiba Laptops. I read his lspci listing and our chipsets seem similar so I tried that driver and the modifications that it specified.

Here's the page link. http://seehuhn.de/comp/toshiba.html

Here's the output I recieved when I issued the make command:

gcc -Wall -O3 -fomit-frame-pointer -D__KERNEL__ -DMODULE -DEXPORT_SYMTAB -I. -I/usr/src/linux/include -DMODVERSIONS --include /usr/src/linux/include/linux/modversions.h -o amrmo_init.o -c amrmo_init.c

This is only part of the error message I could post all of it due to character restraints.

I don't know if you can make anything out of that but I figured I'd post it.

Well, the message is pretty simple. Its telling u that you dont have kernel source installed. Install kernel source (which should be on you installation cd's).

I read his lspci listing and our chipsets seem similar so I tried that driver and the modifications that it specified.
I recommend that u download and run the scanmodem tool from linmodems.org before you try to install drivers.. that way you can be sure that you have the right chipset/driver combination. There are a lot of posts on this forum about 56k modem installation. I recommend you search this forum for help on installing kernel-source and modem, for example:
