RPM database dead, HELP !!!


Hi, i just downloaded java development kit from java.sun

anyway, i downloaded a rpm.bin file

so i ran the bin the usual way

sh ./jdkblahblahblah.rpm.bin

which built the rpm, but when i tried to install the rpm the normal way, it didnt work, not whenever i try to do ANYTHING with rpm, i get these error messages

rpmdb: fatal region error detected; run recovery
error: db4 error(-30982) from dbenv->open: DB_RUNRECOVERY: Fatal error, run database recovery
error: cannot open Packages index using db3 - (-30982)
error: cannot open Packages database in /var/lib/rpm

what do i do ?? please help.

you can rebuild the database

rpm -rebuilddb


'man rpm' for more info
