rootnoverify (hd0,4)

Hello Friends,
I have installed windows XP sp2 and linux 5 server(RHEL5) on my machine.
After complete the installation system was reboot and i selected the other option to start windows XP. I received an error like:
rootnoverify (hd0,4)

Please tell me what is the reason behind this error.
During this error, I tried to updated the kernel of XP using cd. It did not working. System did not read the cd.
So,please tell me how to overcome this error.
Thanks

That's not an error message, it a line from the grub bootloader.

Can you have another look at what's going on and give a bit more detail

If you go to the microsoft KB site and do a search you will find this:

ALL BOOTLOADER FILES BE ON A PRIMARY, ACTIVE NTFS or FAT32 partition

So if you want to boot xp or other windows from a logical partition (hd0,4) you will need another version of windows on a primary partition or at least all the bootloader files!

While you're at it, a copy of your grub.conf would be helpful :)
