Question Root Login Problems

Hi im new to Linux and hav been try to figure out all the stuff about it. This site ha been really helpful which is y i decided to register .

Anyway ok ive been (trying to)installing stuff and this promt always came up that asked for a password to get root access so i typed it in and it worked. But it wasnt permenate i always had to do it and sometimes it didnt work.

But ok the problem is that whenever i try to use su or login as root and then the password prompt comes up i cant type anything. i push buttons and it just doesnt put them there . the only thing i can push is enter which doesnt do anything but make it say wrong password.

I asked a friend and he said something about a usb keyboard but i dont think i hav one. any help whould be greatly appreciated. Also thx to all the ppl who post things and hav been so helpful.

P.S. I "probably" wont be able to reply to any posts for awhile since im at a diffrent house and since im not doing anything decided to write this. So anybody who post thank you now and hope to talk to u later. Also if u hav a good newbie guide or site plz feel free to post it, im sure it will help alot. Any posts will be apprieciated .

I believe for security, the character doesn't move as your type your password in a console. Just type the password and hit enter.
