Root login

I'd like to have root visible on the login screen...Is there anything how i can do it....I'm tired of trying with login mangers...they just don't show it in the menu.....

And I'd like also access my external hdd...which is looked by default...just for "uncle"...root....pls any idea....

I'm sure their is a way but I have to tell you, this is a big no-no in linux. You should ALWAYS log in as a normal user and then use 'su' as necessary. Their is no reason to login directly as root.

Agreed, logging into root will make nothing but trouble (read: hose your machine) you can set up sudo commands for things like, shutdown, mounting, etc.

Yes..Ok

Guys that's good but how i gonna move my load from 160GB external baby....that's pity....when it's accessible just for the root ...it's make me powerless....basic stuff I know...but i don't want to lose time....

HDD...mnt...just for root....distro Mandrake/ Mandriva / 10.2 beta/download.....
I have to reinstall quite often...maybe I'll set up machine without root password... :-)

to allow access to the external HDD, change the permissions in the /etc/fstab.
