Root file install problem
Hi there. Trying to install Ubuntu 10.10 on my desktop, on a specific partition. At first I tried it with WUBI. Then I got boot problems. It was looking for some file in the boot process, like wubldr, something like that. So I tried it with an install disk. When I specific that partition, it needs a rootfile. I search forums. they talk about "/". That doesn't work. It would take "/Windows". But what does that do to my Windows system? Meanwhile, after rebooting in Windows I got problems with XP not working. It doesn't complete the startup process. Didn't think it would be that complicated. Help!

I've used WUBI before, but a while ago, and at least for me it worked like a charm. I'm not quite sure what happened with you machine. When you got your copy, downloaded or otherwise, did you check it for errors? (HASH, etc).
Could you tell us a little more about your situation so we can try to help more? What version of windows xp(home/media/pro...), is this the linux and win 32bit or 64bit, ... Do you have any screenshots/pics? Is there a chance that you selected the wrong partition when installing? The '/' I think you are referring to is the root directory. This is the starting point for the user-level file system used by linux (and many others). Do any of these threads help: http://ohioloco.ubuntuforums.org/sho...d.php?t=576476 http://www.uluga.ubuntuforums.org/sh....php?p=6517103 https://bugs.launchpad.net/wubi/+bug/478717 http://askubuntu.com/questions/2677/...i-on-windows-7 |
