root account cann't login
hi ,everyone
my red hat 8.0 has a problem that the root account cann't login,I'm sure that the password is correct because I can use su - root,and other user can login without any problem, i remember that i had some services disabled befor this problem occured,Does anyone know how to deal with it?

Some distros purposely disable this ability. You may have thrown a switch that enabled this 'feature'. To 'deal' with it, I'd suggest logging in as a user, then su - 'ing' to do the required task, then exiting.

thank you for your reply,the problem is when a logging in as a user,and then su - root ,I found that some programs cann't run any more ,for example:setup will exit without any information

Check the contents of your /etc/securetty file as root is not permitted to login to any console not in that file. Also, please check your logs for any helpful information.

have tried to change your root password?
you can use su and passwd for that

yes,I tried many times to change my root password,
I'm sure it's correct because I can run su - root without any problem

what did the error report say?
just can't login? just wrong password?
I have this kind of problem too, but as other users than root.
with error report : /bin/bash denied
what's yours?

It only says login incorrect,other users donn't have such kinds of problem
