Okay, so, no, dont change the resolv back (just yet) - now, as things stand, you can ping 127.0.0.1, the gateway, but...can you ping anything outside? Let's leave google aside for a moment, try to ping yahoo instead. Just to mix the results...

how can I check the route list?
I typed "route -n"
and it says "command not found"

the only reason I talk about the university is that I tried to describe my internet connection status clearly.

Now I am using the root account, I ping 8.8.8.8 got one line back, and "ping www.yahoo.com" got one line back too.
If I use the FireFox, I can log in the website of yahoo.

Yes, and that could be a clue in solving this one. By the way, repo mentioned proxy settings in Firefox. Had any luck in finding these? Could be a give-away...

Not installed (yet) - I dont know offhand where RHEL gets route. Of course, you did try the command as Root (just checking)...I hope. Otherwise, the command could be "out of reach" indeed...

Look into the settings from firefox in the root account and the user account

Kind regards
I checked the "Network Proxy Preferences" . both the root account and the other account is "direct internet connection"

...wait a minute...can you check the firewall on that box? Are users blocked? Are services blocked? The Root is not blocked, it seems.

Um, just a thought, but, you're not trying to hack your way in/out somewhere are ya?

no
there are 3 lines
first two lines:
the destination are different numbers, and the gateway is 0.0.0.0, genmask is 255.255.255.0 or 255.255.0.0; flags are U
the 3rd line:
the destination number is 0.0.0.0; the gateway address is similar with the gateway I pinged. but the 3rd number is different. and the genmask is 0.0.0.0 Flags is UG

The IP address is clearly not there, let's add this now...

Quote:
route add default gw [that IP address]
...and let's see what happens next

Umm, where does RHEL keep this thing? I'd check System/Settings, it's in a menu there...do that as Root too, of course

I typed route add default gw [gateway address]
and result is "SIOCADDRT: Network is unreachable"

...um, of course, you did replace [gateway address] with an IP address...so, this could only mean you're in another netmask. Enter this

Quote:
ifconfig
...and look for eth0, what's the netmask?
