rmdir full directories

Hi...
Sorry for the newbishness... I haven't been able to find this in my books...

How in the name of pete do you delete a full directory as root? I log in su my password, and of course, rmdir /directoryname always gives me the helpful "directory is full" thing... Which I am aware of, but I REALLY want to get rid of that given directory...

Any ways around this?

Try:
rm -rf /path/to/directory
