RHEL3 up2date returning "This system may not be updated until it is associated"
 

I have a RHEL 3 server that I just tried to install updates on, but up2date kicked back the following message and no updates. Is redhat not offering updates for version 3 anymore?

This system may not be updated until it is associated with a channel.

First you will need to have it registered on RHN. And RHEL3 hit its EOL cycle. But RH is offering extended support for its customers but you will need to pay for it.

It was registered last time I logged on to the server a few weeks ago, and it still shows up when i log into the RHN website. So I have to pay for extended support now to get any updates it might have been missing since the last time I updated it?

To register as "redhat" user-customer is free! But in order to have your system up to date you must pay a yearly subscription. Otherwise you should install CentOS if you want enterprise solutions or Fedora if you want for simple use!

That's the thing, I'm all paid up with redhat, all my other servers are fine, but this one isn't showing up, and its my only RHEL3 box too. Must be something with it going EOL, although I'm not sure how to get those updates. I'd imagine they're still available somehow.

If you did an update arround October 31, 2010, there are no more updates.

"Extended" says : October 31, 2013. Please ask Redhat for info.

Yes, you can check with RH. RHEL3 hit its End Of Life on 31st October this year. They are considering some basic extended support for the customers who can not for some reason upgrade to RHEL5 or RHEL6 which is newer version. But that is going to be very basic support and not all customers may get it. You should check with RH support or sales.

Thanks everyone. I couldn't remember if I got all of them the last time I updated it, but I guess now its a moot point since I can't get the updates anymore.
