RHEL3 and Nvidia 260.19.36 driver
Hi, I have a RHEL3 system running a Nvidia NVS 285 graphics card. The driver installed is Nvidia 260.19.36. This drivers support a lot of other cards like Quadro fx 370. So if I replace my NVS 285 card with Quadro fx 370, do I need to install/compile driver again.

Nvidia drivers are compiled to match the installed and running kernel. The function of the module does not depend upon which GPU is installed, only that it A: matches the kernel using it, and B: supports the GPU installed.
This means that if you replace one supported GPU with another supported GPU the same driver functions with both. If you replace an non-supported GPU with a supported GPU the driver will now function as well. |

Spending time to update to the latest graphics drivers on a system that's so old, would be like putting a coat of paint on a house with holes in the roof. Why bother?? |
