WHY the OLD rhel5.4???????

the current in the OLD Legacy hardware/software support OS is RHEL 5.11

why did you not install that ?

also RedHat is NOT free

you have to BUY$$$ the required support contract
the standard one year DESKTOP install contract is $299 per year
( there is a $49 /year self support)

keep in mind
rhel5 is great on 10 year old hardware but VERY BAD on new hardware

for NEW hardware
buy rhel7.1
or install the FREE!!! clone of the redhat code base
---- CentOS 7.1 ----

If you installed by using the cd/dvd, you should still be able to boot it.

But it is possible you had to change the BIOS to use a specified boot device and it is still set to only boot the disk.

But really, you should use either RH 6 or 7.
