RHEL 5.2 CD ISO making
Hi,
Just downloaded RHEL 5.2 from Redhat site. The downloads are in RAR format. Anybody can help me how to copy these files into a CD and start my RHEL 5.2 installation... |
RedHat provides .RAR files? Didn't know that.
Anyway, rar files are just compressed files. The rar files probably contain a .iso which can be written using cdrecord or whatever burning tool you use. In order to extract the .iso file from the .rar you will need unrar (7zip can also extract rars I think) or winrar (in case you are in windows) |
I would not recommend to use these rar files to create an iso. Red Hat doesn't distribute RHEL isos as rar files!
RAR archives are compressed by a proprietary algorithm and Red Hat prefers open standards... Please ask your Red Hat support to get an official download address or download an evaluation version from: http://www.redhat.com/rhel/details/eval/ |
Thanks a lot pals...I will download the ISO images from Redhat site...Any suggestion or comment on RHEL 5.2. I am planning to install this as a proxy server...

RHEL is quite sturdy os. But if you are planning to buy the support from red hat then it is ok otherwise it is better to use CentOS that which is RHEL without logos and support. Without support from red hat you wont be able to get the security updates from them. And if you dont get the critical security updates, whats the use in using the commercial version?
