RH9 up2date and Kernel

I tried using up2date to update my Kernel, as I had done many times with RH8 easily.

Now in RH9 when I update to kernel-2.4.20-19.9 and try to reboot into it I get this error:

Kernel panic: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel

I've seen this error several times when screwing around with my kernel but never when simply updating.

I tried "rpm -e" on the new kernel then re-installing as I read in an older topic (yes i actually read back a few pages ), same error. The person who had this same problem said it worked for them, but i've had no luck. Anyone got some other ideas?

are you considering compiling the kernel from source and doing it yourself rather than letting up2date do it for you?
i would recommend it as it would be a learning experience, and for you'll know how to do it in the future if need be, and you'll probably get around this error cause you will be doing it yourself and not letting some automated thing do it for you.

I'm having a similar problem. I'm trying to update from 2.4.20-8 to either 2.4.20-19.9 or (now the latest) 2.4.20-20.9 but I get a kernel panic when I try to boot in to it every time.
Short of recompiling from source (new to linux - wouldn't know where to start), what would you recommend. I've obviously tried rpm -e'ing the kernel and re-updating...

Awatto, did you manage to fix yours?
