rh9 boots to grub> prompt only

I installed rh9 as the 3rd os on my laptop (compaq nx9010).

When I choose the linux boot, I get to a grub> prompt, and it does not appear that there is much I can do.

Does this mean that Grub can't find it's config file? How do I tell it where to find it? Or how can I edit the config file so that I can get linux to boot?

Do you get an actual prompt or just the word "GRUB".?

I got just the word "GRUB".

I still have not resolved my problem but was able to boot
from a floppy disk.

If you search on "grub hangs" there are tons of responses'

I get an actual prompt grub> and I can type a few things, like help for example.

have you tried resetting grub up?
