i hv the same problem with rh9. alsaconf also cant work. think I move on to other distro..trident.o is flawed.
update-
I found it !! update the kernel to 2.4.20-30.x,get from fr2.rpmfind.net under ../updates.
rpm install it, then bootup under the new kernel n presto trident soundcard can work !!!
Eureka! sawadeekrup !!

Any GOOD reason why you're using RH9? Like special software that will only run on it. Else get a more recent distro as RH9 is no longer supported (so no new security patches and bug fixes).

jawohl, my hard disk has low capac. My laptop is oldie P3, too troublesome to dnload iso image of FC5 or 6, dun know where to buy the iso CD's.So, is it true the snd (trident) module in RH9 is flawed, quite a few forumers have the same complaints on their laptops, i can see. danke..

Seriously - get rid of RH9. You are not doing yourself any favours.
A P3 is not that old, and you only need 5Gb maximum to install any Linux distro and leave room for your documents.
I suggest that you get FC6 or Fedora 7. Alternativly, if performance is an issue, Xubuntu. It is only on one CD, so it is a relatively easy download.
