RH9.0 Menus - Distro Choice

RPM's under RedHat 9.0 can't make menu items. Why is this? How can I set RPMs to automaticlly make menus?

Does anyone have a better suggestion for a distro? Mandrake 9.2 was disasterous. No sound support, numerous needed packages not included (kernel source!), Mandrake 9.1 was worse, I'm reluctant to use RH9 because of the whole switching-to-commercial thing, and I'm fairly newbish at Linux. (i.e. graphical installers are good, I like X to autostart for login, etc.) Any ideas?

It depends on the RPM I would think if they have it built in to automatically make a link on the menu or icon on the desktop. Is it that much hassle to just create one afterwards?

Any distro will do really. Try some out, see which one you like the best. You've tried two out so far and hate one of them. That's a good start as all can start in X automatically at boot up and just about all have graphical installers, except like Slackware and Debian, etc but I really don't see that as a big deal.

hmm... yeah, but in RH9, the start menu is a shared thing... meaning I have to log off, then re-login as root every time I want to use it, meanwhile killing Mozilla because it doesn't support the hibernation system. Grr.
