still being unfamiliar with the linux os.... if i download an iso for mandrake, will it install just like one that i d/l'd for redhat? is it pretty much the same procedure?

Yes, Mandrake cd's are bootable and have an installer.

Hey, you've got the almost the same computer as me!
xp2100, GA-7vrxp, geforce4 ti4600, 512 ram, 160 gb raid, acer cd-rw. Dual boot (soon) with xp pro and redhat 8 (if all goes well)
