I would go for nothing earlier than Redhat 7.3 and Grub. 7.0 is a beta release and buggy. If you need something earlier, go for Redhat 6.2.

To run .exe files you need one of these:

1. A Windows OS
To run in Linux you will need either:
2. Wine
3. Winex
4. Win4lin
