I am somewhat new at Linux so here goes a basic explanation of my problem:

Installed RH 7.2, Server Config with text login... installation goes fine then after reboot the screen goes blank and stays blank. The monitor is getting sync, and in fact if I type in the root account name/password, then startx, X starts fine. In addition, if I change my runlevel to 5, bootup, the screen is blank until X starts. This problem ensures I cannot run runlevel3 unless I startup with 5 then change it on the fly. I also tried RH 7.3 with identical results.

Hardware:
Asus A7M266 Mobo
256MB RAM
GeForce3 TI500 vid
IBM Deskstar 40gb drive (Win XP)
Seagate 40GB drive (Linux 7.3 accessable via boot disk)

Is this a known issue and am I being a complete n00b about this? Thanks!

hmm, i can only take a stab in the dark and guess that it is the framebuffer not being happy maybe? try running without one. boot to "linux vga=ask" and pick the standard text mode. presumably you're using lilo, press ctrl + X to get out of the menu choice thingy and type that in. might be it, might not.

Im actually not using a boot manager due to the fact that I am using WinXP as my primary OS and LILO and/or GRUB don't seem able to auto see XP (learned that the hard way). To get into my RH, I boot with a boot disk.

Will the "linux vga=ask" work with a boot disk? BTW, thanks for the quick reply...
