RH 7.1 kernel config for Oracle 8.1.7

Hi:

I have to reconfig kernel for Oracle Install. basic info - Dell 1400C, 256MB RAM, 18G SCSI drive. I have created a 9g /usr, 3g /home, 600MB /tmp, 2g /var, 512 MB swap partitions.

Installation is smooth but after reconfiguring kernel (including editing shparam.h and sem.h), I edit the lilo.conf and next the mkinitrd suns soccessfully. But after I reboot with the new kernel I get an error saying - "Root fs not mounted, VFS error... Kernel panic ...08:05..."

But if I shut down completely and run the default linux kernel all is fine.

Any help will be high;y appreciated.

Thanks
(my first experience with linux)

good news - you should be able to use your old kernel. we just had a post here a bit ago about the oracle installation.
